Another Visitor
A Fair Trade
My wife Dedra was checking the henhouse for eggs this afternoon and found a visitor. He already had a couple of eggs in his belly, but we don’t really mind too much. She put him down in the barn to catch mice after he finishes his digestion. Seems like a fair trade, a couple of eggs now and then for some rodent control. He’s a black rat snake, a constrictor, non poisonous, and it looks like he just shed. There’s a bit of dry skin still attached near his eye.

Behind the Plow, 2012
Every year in the late spring a small group of folks gets together on some bottom land along the Yadkin River in Caldwell County, North Carolina, and continue to carry on an old traditional farming practice, plowing ground with horses and mules. This was the third year I’ve attended. There were a dozen or more teams this year and a group of onlookere were treated to a glimpse of the past. Even my wife got into the act. She was given an opportunity to hold the lines on a pair of large draft horses and made a round on a riding plow.Â
