Cat Hole

My Grandfather’s house is across the road from mine. Beside the old house are several intact outbuildings, including a smoke-house. In the corner of the smoke-house door is a cat hole, which allows felines to enter at their leisure and helps keep down the rodent population.

Deer Skull

We were checking our back pasture Sunday before opening it up for the cows, when I ran across this skull of a young buck. He could have died of natural causes, but most likely he was wounded and died later. We have had a problem with poachers for the last couple of years, both in the daytime and at night. I’ve been awakened at 2AM by someone shooting towards my barn from in front of my house. Seems like we don’t really have a lot of hunters in my area, but rather a bunch of people that like to shoot at deer. There is a difference. What a waste.

Egg and Feathers, Photographs on the Green Table

Today’s photographs are from a project I started almost accidentally. We have an old green painted table in our den that sits in front of a large window. The texture of the wood in the tabletop is extraordinary and the natural light that rakes across at different times of day and during different weather conditions is equally wonderful. I have started shooting still-life photographs on the old table, mostly very simple objects, things I find around my home and things that have very special meanings to me personally. I’ve already posted a couple of images from the project (my Grandpa’s knife and my Grandma’s thimble). The photographs today are an egg and feathers from our small chicken flock. I will post more in the coming days and weeks. With the business climate and the cold weather keeping me at home more than usual, sometimes you don’t need to go far to find subjects.
