Hickory Nuts

I walked up to my Mom’s house in Grays Chapel, North Carolina a couple of days ago. She lives in the woods, and I noticed the tremendous number of hickory nuts covering the ground. Thinking back to things the old folks in the neighborhood have said, I don’t know if so many nuts mean we’re in for a hard winter, if it just means the squirrels will be well fed this year, or both.
