I accompanied Jugtown potter Travis Owens to meet geologist Steve Blankenbeker at Taylor Clay Products in Salisbury, NC to pick up a load of pottery clay. The clay originated from near Lemon Springs in Moore County, North Carolina. Travis will take the load back and process it for making pottery.

I accompanied Jugtown potter Travis Owens and geologist Steve Blankenbeker yesterday as they searched a test plot of land in Moore County, North Carolina for pottery clay. Steve helps locate clay for the brick industry and the local pottery market. The folks at Jugtown dig and process their own locally sourced clay.
