Yesterday Grays Chapel Elementary School celebrated its one hundred year anniversary. A community school, my family has been connected with it for three generations. Formally a 1 through 12 union school, my Mom, my Dad, my brother and my sister all graduated there. My father and wife taught there. My Dad was principal there and my two sons and I attended there.

Since 2019 when a tornado swept through Grays Chapel, North Carolina we have been cleaning up the brush and downed trees on the farm and building brush piles. Yesterday the folks that lease my farm began burning the dried brush.
